Brother Reymundo Nur was born in the Republic of Panama. He accepted Islam in 1970 at the age of twelve through the Nation of Islam. After a few years, he met Muslims from the Indian sub-continent in Panama. During that time, he taught himself how to read Arabic from a book in the local library in his hometown.
Subsequently, he left the Nation of Islam and traveled extensively representing Panama at international Islamic conferences in North Africa and throughout the Caribbean region. In 1984 he received a scholarship to attend the Islamic University of Muhammad Ibn Saud in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he studied Arabic and Islamic studies.
Brother Nur is currently acting President and Imam of the Islamic Center of Palm Springs. He dedicates his time to his business and delivers the Friday sermon at the mosque in Coachella. He is currently awaiting the publication of his translation of the Qur’an into Spanish.
